From the Director's Desk

Winter is in full swing, and so are second semester classes at Table Rock Career Center.  It's great to see students continuing to improve upon their knowledge and skills in all of our programs. It is also so exciting to observe seniors marching ever closer to graduation as May will be here before we know it.

Now that we are in February, it's a great time to remind everyone that it is also CTE (Career Technical Education) Month.  Many students recently competed in program specific contests, they will listen to guest speakers from their related industries, and they will participate in mock interviews to help prepare them to enter the workforce.

We also recently finished our sophomore tours from our eleven sending schools, so we've had lots of visitors through our doors exploring all TRCC has to offer.  It’s exciting to meet future students who are anxious to prepare for life after high school.

TRCC Students Visit State Capital

Students and staff from TRCC made the trip to Jefferson City to thank lawmakers and state officials who are continuously advocating for Career and Technical Education and for their legislative support in the construction of our new state-of-the-art facility that opened in the fall of 2024.

The following students did a great job communicating to those who serve in our government at the state level how Career and Technical Education is preparing them for college, career, and life: Tanner Stults (EMT/Reeds Spring High School), Chloe Kugler (EMT/Reeds Spring High School), Cason Kemp (Construction/Hollister High School), Savannah Cartright (Graphic Design/Branson High School), and Lucia Esqueda (Culinary Arts/Spokane High School)

Thanks to Senator Brad Hudson (District 33), Senator Mike Moon (District 29), Representative Burt Waley (District 138), Representative Brian Sietz (District 156), Representative Mathew Overcast (District 155), and Karla Eslinger (Missouri Commissioner of Education) for spending time with our students learning about how their educational experiences at TRCC are shaping them for life after high school.

Sept P of the M

We would like to take the opportunity to spotlight our EMT instructor, Lacey Williams, for being selected as the January Teacher of the Month. An EMT student enthusiastically expressed, “She is always a supportive teacher! She never gives up on her students. She pushes us to be a better version of ourselves each day and constantly gives us daily encouragement.”  Mrs. Williams invests so much in her students and is proud of the role she plays in so many of her former students becoming successful EMTs, paramedics, nurses, fire fighters and other related industries.

A shout out is in order for Sandy Yocum for being named January Employee of the Month.  Ms. Yocum is an administrative assistant who is always so helpful and friendly in the office. She has really found her groove in her second year at Table Rock Career Center and has become an amazing part of our team.  Her joyful spirit makes our office a wonderful place for students, staff, and guests to visit.  She loves being a part of a great team of educators committed to preparing students for life after high school.

TRCC Alumni Spotlight: Madison Rowe

It is our privilege to feature 2021 Galena High School graduate, Madison Rowe, for our alumni spotlight.  Madison excelled in our EMT program and earned her industry certification that was used when she began her career as an EMT at Taney County Ambulance District.  While working at TCAD she continued her education and earned a paramedic certification at North Arkansas College.  With this added certification she began working as a paramedic with North Arkansas Regional and continued her education at North Arkansas College where she earned a registered nursing degree and recently began working as an intensive care unit nurse at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri.

When she began her training at Gibson Technical Center she was unsure about her potential career path, but under the mentorship of Lacey Williams, her EMT instructor, she became focused on a career dedicated to helping those in need.  She was very grateful for the role Mrs. Williams had in “Providing training that was straight to the point with a focus on the skills I needed to know to be successful in the healthcare industry.”  When asked what advice she would give students who are considering going to Table Rock Career Center she without hesitation expressed, “Go for it!  The opportunities provided are a foundation for success.”

Early Education Careers Prepares Students for Success

MT

Students have been very busy in the Early Education Careers program.  They have studied child abuse and neglect prevention, learning how educators play a vital role in keeping children safe.  They have explored the importance of healthy nutrition, physical activity, and wellness in early childhood and created activities and resources to promote healthy habits for children.  They have earned their CPR certifications. This essential skill is important so students will be prepared to respond confidently in emergency situations.  They are provided with opportunities to observe and reflect on developmental milestones and teaching strategies used by educational professionals.  Most importantly, students are gaining real-world experience by working with children in early education classrooms, preschools, primary and intermediate schools, applying what they learn in class to real settings.

Second year students are completing Missouri’s substitute teaching course. These students are gaining important training in classroom management, safety procedures, instructional support, and professionalism—skills that prepare them to step confidently into substitute roles in schools across our community. Earning this certification not only strengthens their resumes but also gives them valuable hands-on experience working with students and certified educators.

Mrs. Caitlin Sullivan has been leading the Early Education Careers program since 2020.  She gained her first industry experience working at the Child Development Center as a student at College of the Ozarks. After graduating from C of O she worked as a first grade teacher in the Branson Public School District for eight years.

Mrs. Sullivan loves working with students from all over the area. She loves the role she plays in helping students grow academically, socially and professionally as they transition from high school to college or straight into the childcare industry.

Table Rock Career Center students are proving that hands-on learning leads to real-world success.

Six students qualified for the SkillsUSA Missouri State Leadership and Skills Conference after earning top-two finishes at district competitions. Their performance reflects hours of preparation and technical skill.

EMT Students are Always on Call

The Table Rock–Carter’s Center EMT class continues to set the standard for excellence. As defending HOSA state champions, students are already preparing for another strong run at the state leadership conference this spring, with hopes of qualifying for the Future Health Professionals International Conference. Alongside competition success, students are working toward national his/her EMT licensure, with several already passing the practical skills portion. Students in the program are currently immersed in clinical rotations with the Taney County Ambulance District, Mercy Emergency Medical Services and Stone County Ambulance District where the students are gaining industry specific experience while working alongside EMTs and paramedics on emergency calls. Students are looking ahead to a new career and the next steps in their educational journey.

Mrs. Lacey Williams began her industry experience as an EMT in 2006 and in 2013 she Gibson Technical Center's first EMT instructor.  She takes tremendous pride in the number of students who completed this program of study and are still working in this industry as an EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, law enforcement officers, nurses and in other healthcare professions.  She believes in the importance of building positive relationships with all of her students where she inspires, motivates, and mentors these students to be the best they can be.

February Professionals of the Month

Table Rock Career Center would like to recognize students from our Computer Technology and Graphic Design programs as our February Professionals of the Month.  Congratulations to the following students:

Aaron Bull is a senior from Crane High School who has built a solid reputation as someone who always takes the initiative to exceed expectations on troubleshooting tasks on the TRCC campus. This has provided a cornerstone for success in his internship at The Track Family Fun Parks as a game technician. He enjoys how his program is not just focused on repairing computers, it is about embracing ways to maximize the use of technology in everyday situations.

Our second student we are highlighting from the Computer Technology program is Reeds Spring High School Senior Micheal Baldwin.  Micheal is a problem solver with a positive attitude.  When troubleshooting computer or networking issues he has the ability to remedy potential issues before they become problems.  He loves how, “Everyday is never the same and I have to be ready for anything.”

Forsyth High School Senior Dalton Rogers is our first representative from the Graphic Design program.  Dalton’s classmates love how his positive demeanor is always contagious and he is always observant to aid someone struggling with a task.  He loves how he is able to utilize and build on his computer skills in creating a wide variety of designs using a wide assortment of publishing software.  He is excited to continue to follow his passion for computers as he pursues a career in technology.

Rane Blair, a senior from Reeds Spring High School, is also representing our Graphic Design program.  There is no task too big or too small for this student.  Whether it is creating digital artwork or video editing, he takes pride in exceeding expectations.  He loves how Mr. Bruffett gives him the autonomy to work on projects he is passionate about.  He is looking forward to continuing his education studying film at Missouri State University.

Thanks to Tracy Carver-American Family Insurance Agency for her continued support of our TRCC Professionals of the Month!

TRCC Debuts Criminal Justice Program

This fall Table Rock Career Center debuted the Criminal Justice program.  Instructor, Bryan Miller, brings a career in the law enforcement experience into the classroom everyday.  Students learn the following skills to prepare them for this high-demand industry:  Arrest procedures, crisis management, de-escalation, criminal investigations, crime scene investigations, career pathways, and the employability skills needed to be successful in this profession.

Mr. Miller has invited many guest speakers to share their professional insights on the judicial system, crime scene investigations, careers in specialized law enforcement, de-escalation procedures, and basic insights on the day-to-day role play in making our communities safer.  They are scheduled to visit the Stone County Sheriff's Department and the Stone County Courthouse to see, firsthand how these important civil servants serve the public.

Mr. Miller brings 32 years of law enforcement experience, 28 serving in a wide variety of roles with the Branson Police Department.  He began his career as a patrol officer and worked his way up to the rank of lieutenant.  During his time in Branson he developed a passion for education through the D.A.R.E. program and served, at the end of his career, as the department’s training/recruiting coordinator.

We are honored to showcase our Early Education Careers instructor, Caitlin Sullivan, for being recognized as our February Teacher of the Month.  One of the people who nominated her had this to say about the impact she has on her students, “Mrs. Sullivan is so amazing and helps with anything.  Whether it’s a listening ear or just being kind, she is truly amazing and such a blessing to her students.” With her passion for education, she loves the opportunity she has to teach the next generation of educators, especially the things she was not taught in her training and had to figure out on her own.

Congratulations to Dusty Borgman for being named the February Employee of the Month.  Mr. Borgman is an assistant teacher in the Collision Repair and Marine Technology programs.  Mr. Borgman spent over 35 years in the collision repair industry, many of those years as a business owner and provides a high level of credibility to the classroom. Because of this, students are not only meeting industry expectations, they are exceeding them.  When asked what the best part of his job is, Mr. Borgman replied without hesitation, “The moment a student who has struggled to master a skill finally gets it.”
